WhatsApp automation for businesses in Saudi Arabia
With Slide, by Synquic, a store or sales team in Saudi Arabia can send order confirmations, cash on delivery checks and shipping updates over WhatsApp as Arabic or English templates, and collect every customer reply in one team inbox. Messages to +966 numbers are charged per message on Meta's Saudi rate line, from a Slide wallet billed in US dollars. Personal data in those chats falls under Saudi Arabia's PDPL, which has been fully enforceable since 14 September 2024.

The buyer and the problem
Online stores and consumer brands selling to customers in Saudi Arabia, especially on Shopify, and the operations teams who confirm orders, chase deliveries and answer "where is my order" messages.
Confirming cash on delivery orders by phone, one call at a time, does not keep up with a busy week, and replies to order updates end up spread across personal phones. The team wants confirmations and updates to go out by themselves in Arabic, the replies gathered in one place, and a clear list of orders that still need a person, without assuming that a WhatsApp reply can change the order in Shopify.

Shopify order events as triggers
Order confirmation, cash on delivery, shipped, out for delivery and delivered are among about 20 store events that start WhatsApp messages without anyone pressing send. "Delivered" fires when fulfilment succeeds in Shopify, not when a courier confirms the drop.
Source:Shopify guideArabic utility templates
Order and delivery messages that the store sends first are utility templates approved by Meta. Arabic is in Slide's template editor and Meta accepts Arabic templates, so each update can be submitted in Arabic and in English.
Cash on delivery confirm or cancel
A cash on delivery order can trigger a message with confirm and cancel buttons, and the answer is written to the contact and tagged. The reply does not change the order in Shopify; your team acts on it there.
Order lookups by an AI agent
An AI agent can search orders and products in the connected store and answer from the policies you give it. It answers in Arabic only when its instructions say so, and AI steps depend on your plan.
One inbox with the window countdown
Replies to order messages land in a shared inbox with assignment and notes. The inbox shows the time left in the 24-hour window and offers approved templates once it closes.

Sent, delivered, read and failed counts and the cost of each send, plus a step-by-step log of every automation run, show where order messages fail. WhatsApp revenue is not reported in the dashboard.

A cash on delivery order, confirmed in Arabic before it ships
A Shopify store selling to customers across the Kingdom offers cash on delivery. This example follows one order from checkout to fulfilment.
- Trigger
A cash on delivery order is placed
A customer in Jeddah checks out with cash on delivery, having agreed at checkout to receive order updates on WhatsApp. Shopify sends the order event to Slide, which starts the cash on delivery flow.
- Action
An Arabic confirmation goes out
An approved Arabic utility template shows the order number, the amount due in SAR and two buttons, confirm and cancel. Because the store messaged first, it is a charged utility message on the Saudi line.
- Customer interaction
The customer confirms
The customer taps confirm. Slide writes the answer to the contact and tags it as confirmed, and the reply opens a 24-hour window for any question that follows.
- Exception
A cancel, or no answer at all
A cancel reply is tagged for the operations team, but it does not cancel the order in Shopify: a person does that there. A customer who has not answered after a set delay gets one reminder template, and anyone still silent is tagged for a phone call.
- Human handoff
Typed questions go to a person
If the customer types a question instead of tapping a button, for example to change the delivery address, a handoff step leaves the conversation in the inbox with the order details and emails the team.
- Action
Shipping updates follow
Shipped and out for delivery templates follow from the matching store events, then a delivered message, which in Slide fires when fulfilment succeeds in Shopify rather than when a courier confirms the parcel arrived. The template is worded to match.
- Recorded outcome
The order trail sits on the contact
The contact shows the confirmation answer, the tags and every template sent, and the run log shows each step. Operations works the tagged cancellations and silent orders in Shopify each morning.

What you need, and the launch sequence
Requirements
- A verified business and a free number
A Meta business portfolio with business verification, which takes several business days, and a number that is not registered on the WhatsApp consumer or Business app.
Source:Meta Business Manager guideWhatsApp Business setup guide - The Shopify store connected
Connect the store so its order events reach Slide. Shopify is the only store platform Slide supports, and the abandoned cart trigger additionally needs the storefront embed.

Confirmation, cash on delivery, shipped, out for delivery and delivered templates each need Meta's approval before the flow can send them. Keep them to order information; promotional wording belongs in marketing templates.

Launch sequence
Start Meta business verification and connect the number from Slide's WhatsApp setup (setup guide).
Connect your Shopify store (Shopify guide) and choose which order events should send a message.
Write each order template in Arabic and English, submit them, and wait for Meta's approval.
Build the cash on delivery flow with confirm and cancel buttons, one reminder for silent orders, and a handoff for anything typed.
Agree who in operations acts on cancellations in Shopify every day, since a WhatsApp reply does not change the order.
Add opt-out keywords in Arabic and English, top up the wallet, and place test orders from team phones before going live.
What is specific to Saudi Arabia
Saudi numbers have their own rate line
Meta prices messages to +966 numbers on a standalone Saudi Arabia line and publishes a rate card in riyals. Slide does not bill in riyals: workspaces are billed in US dollars, or in rupees if created with an Indian number, and the wallet shows the exact price for each message category.
Source:Meta: WhatsApp pricing (opens in a new tab)Meta: WhatsApp pricing (opens in a new tab)Billing and wallet guideThe PDPL is fully enforceable
The Personal Data Protection Law (Royal Decree M/19 of 2021, amended in 2023) came into force on 14 September 2023, and its grace period ended on 14 September 2024. SDAIA publishes the Law, its Implementing Regulation and a separate Regulation on transferring personal data outside the Kingdom, so ask the Slide team where your data is hosted before you sign.
Source:SDAIA: Personal Data Protection knowledge center (opens in a new tab)Passcodes sent from abroad can cost more
Saudi Arabia is on Meta's authentication-international list: a business based outside the Kingdom that sends authentication templates to Saudi numbers at high volume (750,000 outside the service window in a rolling 30 days) pays a higher authentication rate.
Source:Meta: Authentication-international rates (opens in a new tab)Arabic first, English alongside
Article 1 of the Basic Law of Governance names Arabic as the language of the Kingdom. Arabic is in Slide's template editor and Meta accepts Arabic templates, so every order message can go out in Arabic, with an English version for customers who choose it.

The CST publishes Regulations for Curbing Spam Messages and Calls (Decision 493/1444, 2022). Their consent and sending-hour details, and how far they reach WhatsApp, have not been verified for this page, so read them or ask your adviser before you plan marketing broadcasts.

This is a summary of public rules for orientation, not legal advice. Slide does not certify that any business's messaging complies with local law; check your own obligations with a qualified adviser.
What these claims rest on
- Saudi Arabia is its own WhatsApp pricing market, and SAR is a Meta billing currency
Messages to +966 numbers are priced on the Saudi Arabia line.
- Saudi Arabia's Personal Data Protection Law is fully enforceable, with separate rules for transfers abroad
Royal Decree M/19 (2021), amended 2023, in force 14 September 2023 with the grace period ended 14 September 2024. SDAIA publishes the Law, its Implementing Regulation and a Regulation on transferring personal data outside the Kingdom.
Official sourceChecked 11 October 2026SDAIA: Personal Data Protection knowledge center (opens in a new tab) - A higher authentication rate applies to some markets when the sender is based abroad and sends at high volume
The UAE, Saudi Arabia and India are on the list. The rate applies to businesses outside the country sending authentication templates at high volume (750,000 outside the service window in a rolling 30 days).
- Shopify events trigger WhatsApp and email automations, including abandoned checkout and order updates
About 20 store events: abandoned checkout and cart, order confirmation, cash on delivery, shipped, out for delivery, delivered (fulfilment succeeded), review request, win-back, reorder, back in stock and price drop. Shopify is the only supported store platform; the cart trigger needs the storefront embed. A cash-on-delivery confirm or cancel reply does not update the Shopify order.
How the cost is made up
The Slide plan and WhatsApp usage are billed separately. A workspace created with a Saudi number is billed in US dollars; there is no riyal billing. Plans and prices are on the pricing page, paid plans include a 14-day trial, and AI steps depend on the plan. Confirm the payment method with the Slide team before you subscribe.
Order confirmations, cash on delivery checks and shipping updates are utility templates, charged per message on Meta's Saudi line. Since 1 October 2026, utility templates sent while a 24-hour window is open are charged as well, and so are service replies once a number passes 1,000 in a month. Messages customers send you cost nothing.
The monthly cost of order messaging therefore follows the number of orders times the updates each one gets, plus the replies your team sends. The wallet shows the exact per-message price for your account, and sends stop if it runs dry, so keep a buffer before a sale.
When this fits, and what it does not do
A good fit when
- A Shopify store with a steady flow of cash on delivery orders to confirm.
- Order and delivery updates that should arrive in Arabic.
- An operations team that already works its orders in Shopify every day.
Needs a person when
- Cancelling, editing or refunding an order in Shopify after a WhatsApp reply.
- Address changes, failed deliveries and payment disputes.
- Any customer who types a question instead of tapping a button.
Not established by this page
- Whether WhatsApp business calls connect to Saudi numbers.
- How the CST spam regulations apply to WhatsApp.
- Where customer data is hosted. Ask the Slide team before you sign.
Direct answers
Can Slide send WhatsApp order updates to our customers in Saudi Arabia from Shopify?
Yes. Once the store is connected, Shopify events such as order confirmation, cash on delivery, shipped, out for delivery and delivered start WhatsApp messages using templates Meta has approved. Each update is charged per message on the Saudi rate line. Shopify is the only store platform Slide supports today; a store on another platform would have to send its events through a webhook trigger or the public API instead.
Source:Shopify guideWhatsApp Business setup guideMeta: WhatsApp pricing (opens in a new tab)Automation builder guideAPI referenceWhen a customer confirms a cash on delivery order on WhatsApp, does Shopify update?
No. The confirm or cancel answer is saved on the customer's contact in Slide and can tag them, but it does not change the order in Shopify. Someone on your team has to cancel or hold the order there. Plan a daily review of the tagged cancellations so nothing ships that the customer turned down.
Source:Shopify guideAutomation builder guideWhat does "delivered" mean in a Slide order update?
The delivered event fires when a fulfilment succeeds in Shopify. It is not confirmation from a courier that the parcel reached the customer. If your fulfilment is marked before the parcel is handed over, word the template so it claims no more than you know, for example that the order is on its way to them.
Source:Shopify guideWhat does Saudi Arabia's PDPL mean for our WhatsApp messages?
Order chats carry names, phone numbers, addresses and purchase history, which is personal data. The PDPL has been fully enforceable since 14 September 2024, after a one-year grace period, and SDAIA publishes an Implementing Regulation and a separate Regulation on transferring personal data outside the Kingdom. Ask the Slide team where your data is hosted, and take legal advice on what the transfer rules require of you. Slide supplies mechanics such as opt-out handling and contact fields for recording consent; meeting the law is still your responsibility.
Source:SDAIA: Personal Data Protection knowledge center (opens in a new tab)Contacts guideDo the CST spam regulations cover WhatsApp?
The CST publishes Regulations for Curbing Spam Messages and Calls (Decision 493/1444, 2022). This page has not verified their consent and sending-hour details, or how far they reach WhatsApp, so it does not summarise them. Read the regulations or ask your adviser before you plan marketing broadcasts to Saudi numbers. Meta's own rule applies regardless: opt-in that names your business before you message anyone first.
Source:CST: Regulations for curbing spam messages and calls (opens in a new tab)WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy (opens in a new tab)Can we pay in Saudi riyals?
Not with Slide. Workspaces created with a non-Indian number are billed in US dollars, and there is no riyal billing, even though Meta publishes a WhatsApp rate card in SAR. WhatsApp charges are taken from your Slide wallet in the workspace currency. Confirm the payment method with the Slide team before you subscribe.
Source:Billing and wallet guideMeta: WhatsApp pricing (opens in a new tab)Billing and wallet guideCan the AI agent answer order questions in Arabic?
It can, if its instructions say so. The agent looks up orders and products in the connected Shopify store and answers from the policies you give it; replying in Arabic, or in whatever language the customer used, is something you write into its instructions rather than a setting. AI steps depend on your plan, and the Slide dashboard itself is in English.
Source:Automation builder guideIntegrations guideCan we call customers in Saudi Arabia over WhatsApp?
Calling to Saudi numbers has not been verified, so do not build a flow that depends on it. Meta keeps a list of countries whose business numbers cannot place calls, and business calling needs a messaging limit of at least 2,000. Build order confirmations on messages and buttons, and use an ordinary phone call where a voice is needed.

Slide fits a Saudi online store, especially one on Shopify, that wants order confirmations, cash on delivery checks and shipping updates sent automatically in Arabic and the replies gathered in one inbox: the store events, Arabic templates, buttons and tagging are built. It is a weaker fit if you need a WhatsApp reply to change the Shopify order by itself, a store platform other than Shopify, riyal billing, or a delivery message confirmed by the courier.
