Appointment booking in chat: what works, and what to use instead

Slide, by Synquic, can book an appointment from a WhatsApp, Instagram or email conversation only through a connected Cal.com account: an AI agent or automation collects the details and books the date and time the customer chose, and Cal.com sends its own confirmation. Slide has no booking calendar of its own, cannot look up free slots, and sends no automatic reminder before the appointment. Clinics in India can use Slide's separate healthcare product, which has native scheduling with reminders 24 hours and 2 hours before.

Who it is for

The buyer and the problem

Businesses that take bookings by message, such as consultancies, salons, training providers, dealerships offering test drives and agents arranging property viewings, and that already keep their calendar in Cal.com or are willing to.

Booking by chat takes several messages: which day, which time, is that free, what is your name. If the business also wants a reminder before each appointment, someone sends it by hand. Before automating any of it, it matters which of those steps a messaging platform can actually do.

What Slide does

Supported capabilities, mapped to the product

  • Booking through Cal.com

An AI agent or an automation books a given date and time in your connected Cal.com account, and Cal.com sends the customer its own confirmation.

  • Collecting the details first

On WhatsApp, buttons, lists and validated questions collect the service, the customer's name and email and any other detail you need before the booking is made, and save them to the contact.

  • Booking inside an Instagram DM

The AI agent can take a booking in an Instagram conversation while the 24-hour reply window after the customer's last message is open.

  • A person for anything unusual

A handoff step leaves the conversation in the inbox with the details collected so far and emails the team, for requests the agent should not settle, such as prices or changes.

  • Reminders for a fixed-date event

A wait-until step pauses an automation until a fixed date and time, which suits an event everyone attends at once, such as a webinar or an open day. It cannot count back from each person's own appointment.

  • Native scheduling for clinics

Slide's separate healthcare product, sold in India on its own annual plans, includes appointment scheduling with reminders 24 hours and 2 hours before.

What is not built, and what to use instead

No booking calendar inside Slide. Your calendar lives in Cal.com, the only scheduling tool Slide connects to; Calendly and Google Calendar are not built.

No availability lookup. Slide cannot see which times are free, so the agent books the time the customer names. Give the agent your opening hours in its instructions so it only offers sensible times, and if customers need to see what is open, send them the link to your own booking page and let your scheduling tool handle availability.

No automatic reminder before the appointment. The wait-until step needs a fixed date and time, and no trigger fires a set time before each booking. Rely on your scheduling tool's own reminders, or tag the next day's bookings and send them a scheduled WhatsApp campaign with an approved template. On Instagram no reminder is possible at all, because Slide sends nothing after the 24-hour window.

Clinics and other healthcare providers in India should look at Slide for healthcare instead: a separate product with its own scheduling and reminders, sold on annual plans.

Example workflow, illustrative

A test-drive request booked in WhatsApp

A car dealership connects its Cal.com account to Slide and offers test drives on WhatsApp. This is one booking, including the part Slide does not do.

  1. Trigger

The customer asks for a test drive

A customer sends "test drive" to the dealership's WhatsApp number. The keyword starts the booking flow, and the message opens the 24-hour service window.

  2. Customer interaction

    The details are collected

A list asks which model. The AI agent then asks which day and time suit the customer, within the hours its instructions allow, and reads the details back for the customer to confirm.

  3. Action

The slot is booked in Cal.com

The agent books the confirmed date and time in the dealership's Cal.com account, which sends the customer its own confirmation.

  4. Human handoff

A trade-in question goes to sales

The customer asks what their current car is worth. That needs a person, so a handoff step emails the sales team and leaves the conversation in the inbox with the booking details attached.

  5. Exception

No automatic reminder the day before

Slide cannot schedule a message relative to the appointment time. The dealership relies on its scheduling tool's reminders, and each afternoon a team member tags the next day's bookings and sends them a scheduled WhatsApp campaign using an approved template.

  6. Recorded outcome

The booking and the conversation are on record

Cal.com holds the booking. Slide holds the conversation and the answers on the customer's contact, and a step-by-step log of the automation run.

Setup

What you need, and the launch sequence

Requirements

Launch sequence

  1. Decide what a customer must tell you before a booking: the service, the day and time, a name and an email address.

  2. Connect Cal.com (integrations guide).

  3. Write the AI agent's instructions with your opening hours and services, and tell it to read the details back before it books.

  4. Build the flow in the automation builder, with a handoff for anything the agent should not settle, such as prices or changes to a booking.

  5. Decide how reminders will reach customers, since Slide will not send them automatically, then test a booking end to end.

Pricing

How the cost is made up

The Slide plan decides which features you have, including AI steps, which you need if an AI agent makes the booking; plans and current prices are on the pricing page, and paid plans start with a 14-day trial. Workspaces are billed in rupees if created with an Indian number and in US dollars otherwise. Cal.com is a separate account you hold on its own terms.

On WhatsApp, Meta charges per message and Slide draws the charges from your wallet. Since 1 October 2026 the service replies in a booking conversation are charged after the first 1,000 each month per number, and any reminder template you send after the window is charged by its category and the customer's country.

Slide for healthcare is sold separately, on its own annual plans in India.

Fit and limits

When this fits, and what it does not do

A good fit when

  • You already run your calendar in Cal.com, or are willing to.
  • Customers can name the day and time they want.
  • Bookings that need a few details collected first, such as a service and a name.

Needs a person when

  • Changes, cancellations and anything involving a price.
  • A customer who cannot find a time that suits them.
  • Requests outside the hours the agent is told to offer.

Not established by this page

  • Rescheduling or cancelling a Cal.com booking from the chat: this page does not establish it, so plan a handoff for changes.
  • Any reduction in no-shows: Slide sends no automatic reminders and publishes no measured outcomes.
  • Where customer data is hosted. Ask the Slide team before you sign.
Questions

Direct answers

Can customers book an appointment in WhatsApp with Slide?

Yes, through a connected Cal.com account. An AI agent or an automation collects the details and books the date and time the customer chose in Cal.com, which then sends its own confirmation. Slide has no booking calendar of its own, so without Cal.com there is nothing to book into. AI steps depend on your plan.

Can Slide show customers the free time slots?

No. Slide cannot look up availability in Cal.com, so the agent books the time the customer names. Give the agent your opening hours in its instructions so it only offers sensible times, and hand the conversation to a person if the customer cannot settle on one. If customers need to see what is free, send them the link to your booking page and let your scheduling tool handle it.

Does Slide send appointment reminders?

Not automatically. No trigger fires a set time before each appointment, and the wait-until step only waits for a fixed date and time, which suits a single event everyone attends rather than individual bookings. You can rely on your scheduling tool's reminders, or tag tomorrow's bookings and send them a scheduled WhatsApp campaign with an approved template. Slide's healthcare product is the exception: it sends reminders 24 hours and 2 hours before.

We run a clinic. What should we use?

Look at Slide for healthcare. It is a separate product with native appointment scheduling and reminders sent 24 hours and 2 hours before, sold on its own annual plans in India. The general Slide platform described on this page books only through Cal.com and sends no automatic reminders, which makes it a weaker fit for a clinic's appointment book.

Can people book from an Instagram DM?

Yes, while the conversation is open: the AI agent can take the details and book in Cal.com within the 24-hour window after the person's last message. No reminder or follow-up is possible on Instagram after that window, because Slide sends no messages outside it. If you want to remind Instagram customers, ask for an email address or a WhatsApp number, with their permission, during the booking.

Does Slide work with Calendly or Google Calendar?

No. Cal.com is the only scheduling tool Slide connects to; Calendly and Google Calendar are not built. Outbound webhooks and the public API exist for custom work, but nothing on this page establishes booking into another calendar through them, so test that before you rely on it.

Can we remind everyone before a webinar or open day?

Yes, because everyone attends at the same fixed time. A wait-until step can hold an automation until a date and time you set and then send the reminder; on WhatsApp that message needs an approved template once the 24-hour window has closed. A scheduled WhatsApp campaign to a tag, or an email campaign to a segment, works too.

Key facts

Key facts: Appointment booking with Slide

Slide is a reasonable fit when you already use Cal.com and want a WhatsApp, Instagram or email conversation to collect the details and book a time the customer names, with a person on hand for anything unusual. It is a weaker fit if you need customers to see live availability, automatic reminders before each appointment, or a calendar other than Cal.com; clinics in India should look at the separate healthcare product, which has scheduling and reminders built in.
