WhatsApp customer support for businesses in Nigeria
Slide, by Synquic, lets a business in Nigeria answer routine WhatsApp support questions with a menu bot or an AI agent, and pass everything else to a team inbox with the details already collected. A Nigerian (+234) business number can receive WhatsApp calls from customers but cannot place them, so a request to be called back becomes a handoff to a person who phones on an ordinary line or replies in the chat. Service replies are charged on Meta's Nigeria rate line after 1,000 free each month per number, and Slide bills the workspace in US dollars.

The buyer and the problem
Support and after-sales teams at businesses in Nigeria (retail, logistics, energy, financial services, installers) that handle customer questions, faults and complaints on a WhatsApp number.
Questions arrive at all hours, and some end with a request to be called. The business number cannot ring the customer back over WhatsApp, so call-back requests end up on someone's personal phone with no record of who asked, about what, or whether anyone called. Support needs to capture the request, route it to a person and keep the history on the customer.
Supported capabilities, mapped to the product
A menu for the questions that repeat
Button and list menus route customers to order status, faults, payments or the team, check what they type, and branch on the answer, with a way back to the main menu.
Source:Automation builder guideAn agent that answers from your manuals
An AI agent replies from a knowledge base you load, such as product manuals, warranty terms and delivery areas, and can look up orders in a connected Shopify store. AI steps depend on the plan.
Call-back requests captured, not lost
A "Call me back" button can ask for a preferred time, save it with the other answers to contact fields, and end in a handoff that emails the team, so the request has an owner and a record.
A shared inbox with owners
Conversations are assigned to teammates, with notes and a countdown for the 24-hour reply window; when it closes, the inbox offers approved templates instead of free text.
Source:Getting started guideEnglish templates for updates after 24 hours
Visit confirmations and case updates sent after the window are Meta-approved templates. English is in Slide's editor; Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba are not.
Consent stored for anything that follows
A closing question can ask whether the customer wants offers or maintenance reminders, and save the answer to a contact field and tag; the conversation's own timestamp shows when it was given. Campaigns skip unsubscribed and blocked contacts.
An inverter fault report that ends in a call-back
A company in Lagos sells and installs home solar systems and runs its after-sales support on one WhatsApp number. This is one customer's fault report.
- Trigger
The customer reports a fault
At 7:15 am a customer writes that the inverter is beeping and showing an error code. The message opens a 24-hour service window.
- Customer interaction
The bot collects what a technician needs
A menu offers report a fault, installation status, payments and talk to us. Under faults, the bot asks for the inverter model from a list, the error code (checked against the expected format) and the area, and writes each answer to the contact.
- Action
The agent suggests the safe first checks
The AI agent explains what the error code means from the installation manual in its knowledge base and lists the checks a customer can safely make. Its instructions forbid suggesting that the customer open the unit.
- Human handoff
Not fixed, so a technician takes it
The beeping continues and the customer taps "Call me back", then picks "this afternoon". A handoff step leaves the model, the error code and the preferred time in the inbox, assigned to the technician on duty, and emails the team. The business number cannot place WhatsApp calls, so the technician phones from an ordinary line or replies in the chat, and adds a note on what was found.
- Exception
If the visit is booked after the window closes
The technician books a visit for two days later, after the 24-hour window has closed, so free text is no longer allowed. An approved English utility template confirms the date. Earlier in the chat the customer had switched to Yoruba, and a Yoruba-speaking teammate replied in Yoruba, which free-form replies inside the window allow; the template itself has to be in English.
- Recorded outcome
The case history stays on the customer
The fault, the technician's note and a "Visit booked" tag stay on the contact, and the automation run is logged step by step. At the end the bot asked whether the customer wanted maintenance reminders; the yes is saved to a contact field and tag, and the conversation's timestamp shows when it was given. That is the consent record any later reminder relies on.

What you need, and the launch sequence
Requirements
- Meta business verification
The +234 number sits in a Meta business portfolio, and Meta verifies the business before it can send at scale. Allow several business days.

A number registered on the WhatsApp consumer or Business app cannot be connected at the same time; its app account has to be deleted first.

Visit confirmations and "we have an update" messages sent after the window need Meta-approved templates, and the editor offers English for Nigeria, not Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba.

Handoffs notify the team by email and leave the chat in the inbox; nothing calls the customer automatically. Name who works the call-back queue on each shift.

Launch sequence
Start Meta business verification and connect the support number (setup guide).
List the reasons customers contact you and mark each one as a bot answer, an agent answer or a person.
Build the menu, the fault and payment branches and the call-back branch in the automation builder; end the call-back branch in a handoff step.
Load manuals and policies into the agent's knowledge base, and decide in its instructions which languages it may reply in.
Submit English utility templates for visit confirmations and case updates, add opt-out keywords, and create consent fields in contacts.
Confirm the payment method, top up the wallet, test every branch from team phones, and publish the number on invoices, packaging and your website.
What is specific to Nigeria
Customers can call your +234 number, but you cannot call out
Meta lists Nigerian business numbers among those that cannot place business-initiated WhatsApp calls. Customers can still call the business on WhatsApp. Plan call-backs as a handoff to a person who uses an ordinary phone line or replies in the chat.
Source:Meta: WhatsApp Business Calling (opens in a new tab)A Nigeria rate line, with no NGN rate card
Messages to +234 numbers are priced on Meta's Nigeria line, and Meta publishes no rate card in naira. Slide bills a workspace outside India in US dollars, and the per-message charges come from the wallet in that currency.
Source:Meta: WhatsApp pricing (opens in a new tab)Meta: WhatsApp pricing (opens in a new tab)Billing and wallet guideEnglish templates; other languages in free-form replies
English is Nigeria's language of government and business, and the Constitution provides for National Assembly business in Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba once arrangements are made. Slide's template editor has English but not Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba, so templates go out in English, while a teammate can reply in any language inside the 24-hour window.
Source:Constitution of Nigeria, section 55 (opens in a new tab)Marketing after a support chat needs recorded consent
GAID 2025 Article 18 requires consent for any direct marketing, and Article 17 requires that consent to be recorded and as easy to withdraw as to give. Under the Data Protection Act 2023 a person can object to direct marketing at any time. Do not treat a support conversation as consent to marketing; store an explicit yes on the contact before sending offers, and the conversation shows when it was given.

What these claims rest on
- Business-initiated WhatsApp calls are unavailable for business numbers in some countries
Meta lists countries where a business number cannot place calls: Nigerian, Egyptian, Canadian and US business numbers are on it; Kenyan and South African numbers are not. Customers can still call the business where the Cloud API is available. Calling needs a messaging limit of at least 2,000.
- Nigeria's GAID 2025 requires consent for direct marketing and records of that consent
Article 18(1)(a): consent is required for any direct marketing activity. Article 17(6)-(7): consent must be recorded, and withdrawing it must be as easy as giving it.
- Nigeria is its own WhatsApp pricing market; there is no NGN rate card
Messages to +234 numbers are priced on the Nigeria line. Authentication rates were cut on 1 February and 1 April 2025.
- An automation can hand a conversation to the team, with the collected answers on the contact
The handoff step notifies the team by email and leaves the conversation, with what was collected, in the inbox. On WhatsApp it also assigns the conversation to the teammate chosen in the step, or else to the contact's owner, or leaves it in the shared inbox. It does not pause the bot permanently: a new customer message can start an automation again, and there is no hand-back step. On Instagram, a teammate's reply takes over from the AI agent.
How the cost is made up
A workspace created with a Nigerian number is billed in US dollars. Plans and current prices are on the pricing page, paid plans begin with a 14-day trial, and AI steps depend on the plan. Confirm the payment method with the Slide team before you subscribe.
Meta charges per message and Slide draws the charges from a prepaid wallet. Messages customers send you are free. Since 1 October 2026 Meta charges service replies inside the window on the Nigeria line, at the utility rate, after the first 1,000 each month per business number; utility templates sent inside the window are charged too, and templates sent after it are charged by category.
A support line's cost therefore follows the number of conversations you reply to, the replies each takes and the templates sent after the window. Call-backs made from an ordinary phone line are not WhatsApp usage. The exact per-message price for your account is shown in the wallet.
When this fits, and what it does not do
A good fit when
- Repeated questions with written answers, such as order status, delivery areas, warranty and payment steps.
- A team that shares one WhatsApp number and needs call-back requests to have an owner.
- After-sales support where a technician needs details before calling.
Needs a person when
- Every call-back request.
- Faults the manual does not cover, complaints and refunds.
- Payment problems and any dispute over money.
Not established by this page
- Any reduction in response time or support cost: Slide publishes no measured outcomes for this workflow.
- How well the AI agent answers in Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba: test it before relying on it.
- Where customer data is hosted. Ask the Slide team before you sign.
Direct answers
How can a business in Nigeria use Slide for WhatsApp support?
Connect your WhatsApp Business number, build a menu for the questions you get most, load manuals and policies into an AI agent, and end every path in an answer or a handoff to your team. The team works the conversations from one shared inbox with owners and notes, and call-back requests arrive as handoffs with the customer's details attached.
Source:WhatsApp Business setup guideAutomation builder guideAutomation builder guideGetting started guideAutomation builder guideCustomers ask us to call them. Can we call them back on WhatsApp from our Nigerian number?
No. Meta does not allow business-initiated WhatsApp calls from Nigerian (+234) business numbers, although customers can call the business. Build a "Call me back" option that collects a preferred time and ends in a handoff; the teammate then phones from an ordinary line or replies in the chat. The handoff alert is an email, so someone needs to watch the queue.
Source:Meta: WhatsApp Business Calling (opens in a new tab)Automation builder guideAutomation builder guideWhat should the bot handle, and when should a person step in?
Let the bot and agent handle what has a written answer: order and installation status, delivery areas, warranty terms and the safe first checks for a fault. Bring in a person for every call-back request, faults the manual does not cover, complaints, refunds and payment problems. A handoff does not keep automations paused, so end those branches at the handoff.
Source:Automation builder guideAutomation builder guideAutomation builder guideCan the bot and our templates use Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba?
Templates cannot: those languages are not in Slide's template editor, so messages after the 24-hour window go out in English. Inside the window, your team can reply in any language, and menu text can be written in any language you choose. An AI agent replies in another language only if its instructions say so, and you should test its quality first. The dashboard is in English.
Source:Automation builder guideWhat do we need from Meta, and how long does setup take?
A Meta business portfolio, business verification (several business days), a number not registered on the WhatsApp apps, and a display name, plus Meta approval for each template. You keep ownership of the account and number. Synquic says it can migrate contacts and have a first automation live within one business day, outside Meta's approvals.
Source:WhatsApp Business setup guideMeta Business Manager guideWhatsApp Business setup guideHow is it billed from Nigeria, and what does a support line cost?
The Slide plan is billed in US dollars, so confirm the payment method with the Slide team before subscribing. WhatsApp usage comes from a prepaid wallet: Meta has no NGN rate card, prices +234 numbers on its Nigeria line, and since 1 October 2026 charges service replies after 1,000 free each month per number. Cost grows with conversations, replies per conversation and templates after the window.
Source:Billing and wallet guideMeta: WhatsApp pricing (opens in a new tab)Billing and wallet guideMeta: Pricing for non-template messages (opens in a new tab)WhatsApp Business: FAQ (opens in a new tab)Can we send offers to customers who contacted support?
Only with consent. GAID 2025 requires consent for any direct marketing and a record of it, and withdrawing it must be as easy as giving it; the Data Protection Act 2023 lets a person object to direct marketing at any time. Ask the question in the chat, store the answer on the contact (the conversation shows when it was given), and send campaigns only to that segment. Campaigns skip unsubscribed and blocked contacts, but the opt-out keyword list starts empty, so add your keywords first.

Shopify for order lookups and store events, HubSpot with two-way contact sync, Google Sheets and Forms, outbound webhooks and a public API for anything else. WooCommerce, Zoho and Salesforce are not built, so check before you plan around them.
Source:Integrations guideAPI referenceWhat should we measure after launch?
How many conversations end without a handoff, how many call-back requests come in and how long they wait for a person, how many cases need a template after the window, and wallet spend against the 1,000 free service replies each month. Slide reports WhatsApp sent, delivered, read, failed and cost, and logs every automation run.
Source:Campaigns guideWhatsApp Business: FAQ (opens in a new tab)Why might Slide suit a Nigerian support team, and what should we compare?
Slide gives a shared inbox with owners, menu bots, an AI agent on your own content, and call-back requests captured as handoffs with the details attached. When comparing, ask how each platform handles call-backs given the +234 calling limit, which template languages it supports, which currency it bills in and how you can pay, where data is hosted, and which certifications are complete; Slide's SOC 2 Type II and ISO/IEC 27001 are in progress. Synquic supports customers by email and a bookable demo.
Source:Getting started guideAutomation builder guideAutomation builder guideMeta: WhatsApp Business Calling (opens in a new tab)Slide pricingKey facts: WhatsApp automation for customer service in Nigeria
Slide is a reasonable fit for a Nigerian business whose WhatsApp support is mostly repeated questions plus call-back requests that need an owner: menu bots, an AI agent on your own manuals, a shared inbox with assignment and handoffs that carry the details are built. It is a weaker fit if your support model depends on calling customers over WhatsApp from a +234 number, if you need templates in Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba, or if you must pay in naira.
