Email marketing automation for businesses in Canada
Slide, by Synquic, lets businesses in Canada send email campaigns to segments and automated sequences from their own domain, with one-click unsubscribe, bounce suppression and replies routed to a shared inbox. CASL requires express or implied consent for each commercial email, identification of the sender and an unsubscribe that takes effect within 10 business days. Implied consent also expires, so keep the consent type and its start date on every contact, and move each segment's cut-off date forward before every send.

The buyer and the problem
Marketing teams at Canadian retailers, B2B firms and service providers that email customers, leads and subscribers across provinces, Quebec included.
A Canadian list can mix express opt-ins, buyers whose implied consent runs for two years, and enquirers whose implied consent lasts six months. Without the dates on each record, nobody can tell who may still be emailed, and an unsubscribe that is not honoured in time is a CASL problem. The platform has to make those dates usable and the unsubscribe dependable.
Supported capabilities, mapped to the product
Consent type and dates on each contact
Store whether consent is express or implied, where it came from, and the purchase or inquiry date in custom fields, then build segments from them. A segment rule compares a date field with a fixed date, so move the cut-off forward before each send.
Source:Contacts guideCampaigns with tests and tracking
Send to a segment, A/B test subject, content, sender name or preview text, and track opens and clicks.
Source:Campaigns guideSequences for enquiries
Follow up an enquiry with a first email and up to 5 follow-ups, 1 hour to 60 days apart, that stop as soon as the person replies through a connected mailbox.
Source:Campaigns guideUnsubscribes applied to every later send
Campaign emails carry one-click unsubscribe and sequence emails an unsubscribe line; once an address unsubscribes, later campaigns and remaining sequence steps skip it.
HubSpot and Shopify feeding the record
HubSpot contacts sync both ways and Shopify order events can trigger automations, so contact and purchase data reach Slide from the systems that already hold them.
Forms that start the follow-up
Popups, site forms, landing pages and Meta or Google lead forms can create the contact and start an automation. There is no double opt-in.

A quote request in Ontario, followed up inside its six months
A home renovation company in Toronto takes quote requests through its website form. This is how one request is followed up by email.
- Trigger
A quote request arrives
A homeowner asks for a kitchen quote on the website. The form creates her contact, writes "implied, inquiry" to the consent field, and starts the follow-up automation. The team records the inquiry date in a date field, which the segments use.
- Customer interaction
A short sequence answers the request
She joins a three-email sequence: what the quote covers, photos of recent projects, and an invitation to book a site visit by reply. Each email names the company, gives its contact details and carries an unsubscribe line.
- Qualification
Express consent is asked for, not assumed
The second email offers design news after the quote, through a short form with an opt-in box. She ticks it, and the submission stores her express-consent answer, with the form as the source. Check with your adviser that the form's wording meets CASL's rules for seeking express consent.
- Human handoff
Her reply goes to an estimator
She replies with her kitchen measurements. The reply ends the sequence and appears in the shared inbox, where it is assigned to an estimator.
- Exception
If she had not opted in
Without the express consent, her contact had to leave the newsletter segment six months after the inquiry date. Segment rules compare a custom date field with a fixed date, so the team moves that cut-off forward before every send.
- Recorded outcome
What the record shows
Her contact holds the inquiry date, the express-consent answer and its source, the emails she received and the estimator's thread, so the next campaign relies on fields rather than memory.

What you need, and the launch sequence
Requirements
- A verified sending domain
Mail goes out from your domain once its DNS records are verified, which keeps the sender identifiable.
Source:Email channel setup guide - Consent fields before the first import
Create fields for consent type, source and the date that starts the clock, and import existing contacts with them filled in.
Source:Contacts guide - Identification in every template footer
CASL asks every commercial email to identify the sender. Put the business name and contact information in the footer, next to the unsubscribe link.

Launch sequence
Verify the domain and connect the reply mailbox (email channel setup guide).
Add consent and language fields, then import contacts with their consent type and dates (contacts guide).
Build segments that admit implied-consent contacts only when their date is on or after a cut-off, and move that cut-off forward before every send.
Write templates in English and French with identification and the unsubscribe link in the footer (campaigns guide).
Keep automation "send email" steps for receipts and confirmations, and send marketing as campaigns or sequences.
For past buyers, follow the customer retention workflow for Canada.
What is specific to Canada
Consent, identification and an unsubscribe
Section 6 of CASL requires express or implied consent for a commercial electronic message, identification of the sender, and an unsubscribe mechanism in every message.
Source:Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (S.C. 2010, c. 23) (opens in a new tab)Ten business days to honour an unsubscribe
CASL gives a sender no more than 10 business days to act on an unsubscribe. In Slide, an unsubscribe through a campaign or sequence link is recorded when it is used and later sends skip the address; requests made by reply or by phone need a teammate to block the contact.

Implied consent from an existing business relationship lasts 2 years from a purchase and 6 months from an inquiry. After that you need express consent, so store the dates and move each segment's cut-off date forward before every send.

Quebec's Charter of the French language requires commercial publications and advertising in French and gives consumers the right to be served in French; whether it reaches individual emails is not settled. Law 25 requires an assessment before personal information leaves Quebec, so ask the Slide team where data is hosted.

What these claims rest on
- CASL requires consent, sender identification and an unsubscribe in every commercial electronic message
Section 6: express or implied consent; identify the sender; include an unsubscribe. An "electronic address" includes email, instant messaging and telephone accounts. Section 11(3): unsubscribes take effect within 10 business days.
Official sourceChecked 11 October 2026Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (S.C. 2010, c. 23) (opens in a new tab) - Under CASL, implied consent from a business relationship lasts 2 years after a purchase and 6 months after an inquiry
An existing business relationship gives implied consent for two years from a purchase or contract and six months from an inquiry or application. After that, express consent is needed.
- Email campaigns support segments, A/B tests, open and click tracking, one-click unsubscribe and bounce suppression
A/B tests on subject, content, sender name or preview text; one-click unsubscribe; hard bounces and complaints are suppressed. Soft bounces are not suppressed and there is no list cleaning.
- Email sequences send a first email and up to 5 follow-ups that stop when the person replies
Follow-ups 1 hour to 60 days apart, threaded, stopped on reply (needs a connected mailbox). Each email carries an unsubscribe line by default, and unsubscribed, suppressed or bounced addresses are skipped. Sequences are single-path.
- Quebec's Law 25 requires an assessment before personal information is communicated outside Quebec
In force in phases from 2022 to 2024; relevant when Quebec customers' data is processed by a provider outside Quebec.

How the cost is made up
Email sending uses the credits included with your Slide plan, and you can buy more. A sequence that runs out of credits pauses with a visible status. Plans are on the pricing page, and paid plans begin with a 14-day trial.
Slide bills a workspace created with a Canadian number in US dollars; it has no Canadian dollar billing. Confirm the payment method with the Slide team before subscribing.
When this fits, and what it does not do
A good fit when
- Lists where consent type and dates are known or can be imported.
- Enquiry follow-ups that should stop when the person replies.
- Bilingual campaigns with French versions for Quebec.
Needs a person when
- Unsubscribe requests made by reply, phone or in person.
- Deciding whether a message is commercial under CASL.
- Quotes, complaints and anything negotiated.
Not established by this page
- Whether your consent records would stand up under CASL: ask your adviser.
- Open or conversion rates: Slide publishes no measured outcomes.
- Where data is hosted. Ask the Slide team before you sign.
Direct answers
What does CASL require in a commercial email?
Consent, express or implied; identification of the person or business sending it, with contact information; and an unsubscribe mechanism that is honoured within 10 business days. CASL applies to commercial messages sent to an electronic address, which covers email as well as instant messaging and telephone accounts.
Source:Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (S.C. 2010, c. 23) (opens in a new tab)How long does implied consent last?
Two years from a purchase or contract and six months from an inquiry or application. After that, commercial email needs express consent. Store the relevant date in a custom field and move each segment's cut-off date forward before every send, so contacts whose window has closed are left out; the customer retention workflow shows how for past buyers.
Source:Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation, s.10(10) (opens in a new tab)Contacts guideHow quickly does an unsubscribe take effect in Slide?
An unsubscribe made through a campaign's one-click link or a sequence's unsubscribe line is recorded when it is used, and later campaigns and sequence steps skip that address. CASL allows up to 10 business days. Requests made another way, by reply or phone, need a teammate to block the contact, which Slide then skips on every channel.
Source:Campaigns guideCampaigns guideCanada's Anti-Spam Legislation (S.C. 2010, c. 23) (opens in a new tab)Can our automations send marketing emails?
Use campaigns or sequences for marketing. The automation "send email" step adds no unsubscribe link and does not check the unsubscribe list, so an offer sent that way would lack the unsubscribe CASL requires. Keep that step for transactional messages such as receipts and booking confirmations.
Source:Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (S.C. 2010, c. 23) (opens in a new tab)Do we have to email Quebec customers in French?
Quebec's Charter of the French language requires commercial publications and advertising to be in French and gives consumers the right to be served in French. Official guidance does not settle whether that reaches each marketing email, so a French version for Quebec contacts is the cautious approach. Email content is free text in Slide, so French needs no special setup; the dashboard is in English.
Source:OQLF: Language of commerce and business (opens in a new tab)Where is our data hosted, and does Law 25 apply?
Ask the Slide team where your data is hosted before you sign; this page does not state it. If you serve Quebec, Law 25 requires an assessment before personal information is communicated outside Quebec, and PIPEDA applies to the personal information you collect in commercial activity.

HubSpot syncs contacts both ways and Shopify events can trigger automations; Google Sheets, Meta lead ads, webhooks and a public API are also available. Salesforce and Zoho are not built, so check before you plan around them.
Source:Integrations guideShopify guideAPI referenceWhat does email automation cost for a Canadian business?
The Slide plan, which comes with email credits, billed in US dollars for a workspace created with a Canadian number. More credits can be added, and sequences pause when they run out. Plans and the 14-day trial are on the pricing page; confirm the payment method with the Slide team first.

Slide fits a Canadian business that knows, or can import, each contact's consent type and dates and wants campaigns, enquiry sequences and unsubscribes handled from one place, in English and French. It is a weaker fit if you need consent expiry tracked without maintaining date fields and segments, a contacts or consent export, double opt-in, or a confirmed hosting location before you evaluate.
